ACROYOGA: THE JOY OF FLIGHT with guest teacher Kara Seymour
FRIDAYS MAY 13-27 5:30-7:30 PM 3 WEEKS $50

AcroYoga blends the spiritual wisdom of Yoga, the loving kindness of Thai Massage and the dynamic power of Acrobatics. Grounded in the breath participants will draw upon the natural forces of gravity and metta, or loving kindness, to encourage the body to let go of fear and tension.

This series provides a safe environment to explore trust, inner connection and playfulness while in partnership with others. Participants will learn the three primary roles of the Base, Flyer and Spotter.

The highest aim of AcroYoga is to bring individuals into a state of union with themselves, with each other and with the divine.

In her classes, Kara Seymour incorporates the traditional, ancient practices of yoga and massage into modern life. With enthusiasm and joy, Kara encourages her students to find ease and joy in their bodies by focusing on their own internal rhythms and allowing the breath to guide the movements of the body. Also a practitioner of Thai Yoga Massage and Polarity Therapy, Kara incorporates many tools into her teaching and practice.

Kara completed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training with YogaSpirit Studios in 2005. She has trained in Acro Yoga with Canadian co-founders Jessie Goldberg and Eugene Poku (Montreal, 2008) and completed the AcroYoga Teacher Training program with co-founders Jenny Sauer-Klein and Jason Nemer in 2010.

OFF THE MAT
WEDNESDAYS 7:15-8:30 PM with David

For many of us, a regular yoga practice can change our lives. Sometimes the changes are big but often we make many small changes. Whether we intended it to or not, our yoga practice makes its way off the mat and into our everyday lives.

Off the Mat is a weekly conversation and meditation gathering which explores just that. Each session begins with twenty minutes of meditation followed by conversations about how our lives and our practice go together. Discussions vary every week and we look at topics such as emptiness, karma, a teaching from the yoga sutras or anything we encounter in our day to day lives.

The group began in 2007 when several Jai Yoga students expressed an interest in meditation and Buddhism. Over the past 3+ years, Off the Mat has evolved based on whoever shows up. While there is a core group that has been present from the beginning, many others have come in and out at various times.

David’s mission is to be of service to those who come. And so we occasionally revision the group in order to keep our meetings relevant to the participants’ lives and practice.

There is no charge to attend. Donations to the Jai Yoga Scholarship Fund gratefully accepted.

YOGA STUDIO ETIQUETTE
TIPS TO MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR TIME AT JAI YOGA

A few simple courtesies and a little common sense can go a long way in our interactions with others, especially when we share personal space as we do in a yoga class.

General Requests
Here are our suggestions and requests to make your own experience, as well as the experience of your fellow students, more comfortable and enjoyable:

Please…

· turn your cell phone off before entering the studio

· leave your shoes and coats by the door

· avoid stepping on the mats of your fellow classmates whenever possible

· refrain from wearing scents

· allow at least two hours after eating a large meal before coming to class

· wear comfortable, stretchy clothes that move with you

Late to class?
While we expect you to arrive to class on time, or even early, sometimes life happens and you may be late. Here is what you can do to support yourself and fellow students in settling into class after it has begun:

· If the door is open, take a seat on the couch until centering is over. If the door is closed, please wait in the hallway.

· When the time is right, i.e. when the teacher signals, or the centering/opening meditation is over (usually after the OM), please come in quietly with cell phone already off.

· Write your name on the sign-in sheet on the desk. Then you may unroll your mat and gather your props. If it is a large class, the teacher will help you to create a space.

· Be sure to check-in with the teacher after class to make sure you are appropriately signed-in.

LIVING A LIFE OF BALANCE THROUGH AYURVEDA
SATURDAYS 2-5 PM JAN 29, FEB 26 & MARCH 26 $35/1st class only or $85/series

Spend a few lovely afternoons with Carol Morrison, Ayurvedic Practitioner, as she shares the teachings of Ayurveda and how you can apply its principles and practices to your own healthy lifestyle.

This participatory, 3-part course is a study of the ancient system of health and healing called Ayurveda, the “Science of Life.” Ayurveda, a sister science to Yoga, works with natural rhythms, wholesome foods, healthful routines and using herbs, yoga, massage and other cleansing practices to create vibrant health. Each class will build off the next and you will be encouraged to try some of the practices at home in order to develop your own Ayurvedic routine.

Session 1: Introduction to Principles of Ayurveda
In this first session you will learn about the 5 elements and the 3 “doshas” or constitutions. You will take a test to determine your own constitution and discover the natural rhythms and recommended daily routines for each dosha, especially your own. You’ll be encouraged to choose a few routines to incorporate into your daily life and report on their effect of your overall health at the next session. Session 1 is a prerequisite for Session 2 and 3, but can be attended as a single workshop for $35.

Session 2: The Practice of Ayurveda and the Philosophy of Disease
Learn how Ayurveda views the causes of disease, prevention of disease and treatment. Experience the tastes that build your “digestive fire,” an important element of disease prevention, and learn about teas and diets that encourage detoxification and health promotion.

Session 3: Cleansing and Coming into Balance
We’ll share our experiences with previous personal practices and distill what works well for each of us. Now, you will be ready to learn about more intense cleansing practices and programs. You’ll be introduced to seasonal food lists and balancing seasonal routines for maximum wellness. Jen from Jai will guide you in yoga poses for each dosha.

Don’t hesitate to share the fun with a friend – invite them to attend Living A Life of Balance Through Ayurveda with you!
